Cuddle

Cuddle (Early 1990s, Long Beach, CA)

Cuddle was a short-lived but foundational band in the early 1990s Long Beach alternative music scene. Formed before the rise of Shave, the group featured:

  • Dave Cornblum – vocals

  • Eric Warren – guitar

  • Ray Wong – bass

  • Jeffy Pop – drums

Cuddle fused art-punk irreverence with the raw edge of post-punk and college rock, earning them a place alongside other emerging acts in the Southern California underground. One of the band’s most notable moments came on Thursday, December 3rd, when they opened for Sublime at The Nugget, a legendary college venue on the CSU Long Beach campus. The show flyer, still floating around in punk rock lore, highlights this iconic lineup.

Despite the promising chemistry, internal tensions led to an early breakup. Dave Cornblum was removed from the band by bassist Eric Warren, and shortly after, Cuddle dissolved. While they never officially released a demo, their energy and originality live on in stories and memories from those who saw them live.

The members moved on to new ventures. Dave Cornblum soon launched Shave with Dave Shea, a band that would go on to release multiple albums and make a deeper mark on the scene. Meanwhile, Eric Warren later formed The Len Brown Society, continuing the experimental spirit that began with Cuddle.

Though their time together was brief, Cuddle helped light the fuse for what was to come and remains an essential part of the pre-Shave story.
