Shave

Shave:

For over two decades, Shave was the beating heart of Long Beach’s underground music scene — loud, unapologetic, poetic, and unforgettable. Often referred to as “Long Beach’s most un-famous famous band,” Shave carved its place in California music history with a fearless blend of raw energy and lyrical depth.

Formed in the late 90s, the band quickly became a fixture in the city’s indie and alt-rock circles. Their shows were wild, unpredictable, and filled with emotion — mixing humor, protest, poetry, and primal force.

🎸 The Original Lineup The earliest incarnation of Shave captured lightning in a bottle:•Dave Cornblum – vocals, background vocals•Dave Shea – guitar•Elder D – bass•Rob Fadtke – drums Together, they formed the core that launched the band’s unmistakable sound — riff-heavy, heart-smart, and impossible to pin down.

From the OC Weekly feature on Shave’s legacy:

“Shave never became a household name, but in Long Beach they were something bigger: A creative force. A chaotic family. A reminder that music could be messy, funny, powerful, and absolutely original.”

Band History

Shave is a boundary-pushing band from Long Beach, California, known for their fearless blend of satire, emotional depth, and genre-defying rock. With no live performances and no need for approval from any scene, Shave focused solely on creating a recorded legacy that speaks for itself—bold, sharp, and years ahead of its time.

Their debut album, Jesus Shaves, released in 2008, introduced Shave’s signature style: raw alternative rock fused with biting wit and brutally honest lyrics. The title—a provocative twist on “Jesus saves”—set the tone for an album unafraid to challenge religious, cultural, and personal norms. With tracks that balanced humor and heartbreak, the record captured the spirit of a band willing to cut deep, both sonically and thematically.

Released in 2009, Trans-Universal Worldwide marked a powerful evolution. Expanding beyond the punch of their debut, this second album explored themes of spiritual freedom, media distortion, and identity in a chaotic world. The soundscape grew more experimental and cinematic, with layered instrumentation and interstellar ambition. It’s a record that doesn’t just entertain—it questions everything.

After nearly a decade of silence, Shave returned with High Alert in 2017—a fierce, focused, and timely response to a world spinning out of control. The album confronted modern anxiety head-on, with sharpened production, urgent lyrics, and a darker edge. It was less about clever commentary and more about survival, making it their most direct and impactful statement to date.

Across three albums, Shave never followed the rules. They created music on their own terms—unfiltered, unapologetic, and unforgettable. From the satirical power of Jesus Shaves, to the expansive journey of Trans-Universal Worldwide, to the focused intensity of High Alert, their body of work stands as a singular voice in independent music.
